Westgate Baptist Church Member's Commitment
To those joining with the Saints of Westgate Baptist Church:
Charge to Commitment: We are grateful that you have chosen to take this step of commitment and become a member of Westgate Baptist Church. Remember the responsibilities that church membership brings. With the aid of the Holy Spirit:
·Will you be diligent to exercise self-control (Gal. 5:22-23) so that your lifestyle exhibits both true Christian love (Jn. 13:34-35; 1 Jn. 3:11-18; 4:7-21) and personal holiness (2 Cor. 7:10-11; 1 Pet. 1:14-16)?
·Will you be diligent to not forsake the assembling of yourself with the Body of Christ as we gather corporately to worship God and to mutually edify one another (Heb. 10:24-25), not withstanding reasons of mercy, necessity and providential hindrance (Acts 2:42; Heb. 10:24-25; Mt. 9:13, 12:3-5; 23:23; Lk. 10:25-37; Prov. 16:9)?
·Will you take seriously your relationship to others in the body of Christ, striving to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Eph. 4:1-3; Phil. 2:1-11; Col. 3:12-17) and doing all you can to stimulate love and good deeds in others (Heb. 10:24-25) as you seek to exercise your spiritual gifts in faithful service (Rom. 12:4-8; 1 Cor. 12:7; 1 Pet. 4:10-11)?
·Will you consistently contribute, as a good steward of God's blessings, such time, talent, and money, in the measure that God prospers you, so that our local and worldwide ministry of spreading the gospel may continue (Mt. 6:19-20; Ps. 67:1-2; 1 Cor. 16:2; 2 Cor. 8-9)?
·Will you boldly witness for the Lord Jesus Christ, living a transformed life (Tit. 2:10) and teaching biblical truth to your family and acquaintances, as God gives you opportunity (Ps. 78; Eph. 6:4), with a desire to see them come to trust Jesus Christ and be saved (Mt. 28:18-20; 2 Cor. 5:17-21; 2 Tim. 3:15; 1 Pet. 2:9-12, 3:15)?
·Will you humbly repent when confronted of personal sin and will you lovingly restore others who become entangled in sin (Mt. 7:1-5; Mt. 18:15-20; Gal. 6:1; 1 Thes. 5:14-15), always being willing to both give and receive admonition and instruction with meekness and in love (Gal. 6:1-3; Heb. 3:13; 2 Tim. 2:24-26)?
·Will you joyfully submit to and respectfully follow the leaders of Westgate Baptist church, trusting and supporting their leadership (1 Thes. 5:12-13; Heb. 13:7, 17) as they carry it out in accordance with the mandates and manner of scripture (1 Pet. 5:1:3)?
·Will you commit to praying for the ministry here in this church, for your brothers and sisters in Christ, and for the lost who need the Savior (Col. 4:2-4; Eph. 6:18-20; 1 Thes. 5:17; 2 Thes. 1:11-12)?
To the Congregation: You also need to remember your responsibility to these new members.
Will you, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, seek to love, encourage, teach, admonish, comfort, and exhort these new members, with a genuine desire to see each one grow in the knowledge of Christ and His Word (Jn. 13:34-35; Rom. 15:14; Heb. 3:13; 2 Pet. 3:18)?
